How to Handle Liquid Damage on Your Phone or Laptop

Dropped your phone in water or spilled coffee on your laptop keyboard? Here are the exact steps to take and what critical mistakes to avoid in the first 30 minutes to maximize recovery chances.

The first 30 minutes

Power the device off and leave it off. Do not press buttons to see if it still works, and do not plug it in to charge. Liquid plus power is what turns a spill into a bigger repair.

What not to do

Skip the hair dryer, the oven, and a bag of rice as the fix. Heat can warp parts, and rice does not pull liquid out of a phone or a keyboard. Wipe the outside dry, remove the case, and if a laptop battery can be disconnected safely, do that.

Bring it in

The sooner a technician can open the device and clean the board, the better the chance of recovery. Tell us what was spilled and how long the device stayed on. We will check it before any repair is agreed.
