What to Check When Buying a Pre-Owned Laptop
A straightforward checklist covering battery cycle counts, display checks, thermal output, and stress testing so you buy a refurbished computer with total confidence.

Battery cycle count
Ask how many charge cycles the battery has been through. A lower count usually means more life left. Also ask how long it runs on a normal charge, not just the percentage it shows when you pick it up.
Display and keyboard
Look at the screen on a white page and a dark page. You want an even backlight, no stuck pixels, and no pressure marks. Type on the keyboard and click the trackpad so a worn key or a dead zone is not a surprise later.
Heat and a short stress test
A used laptop should not roar or get too hot just sitting on the desktop. Ask for a short stress test so the fans, temperatures, and charging are checked before you buy. We can walk through that with you in the shop.
